Americanah

americanahI love it when a story absorbs me so fully, that after a while I hear the narrators voice in my head, telling me what I am are experiencing, as if it was a story I’m being told. It recently happened to me when I read Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie‘s Americanah.
The story is about two young people, Ifemelu and Obinze, who meet at school in their hometown Lagos in Nigeria and become lovers and life-partners untilIfemelu gets a scholarship for a College in the US and after a while all of a sudden breaks contact. United Invitations

“... is a movement of sharing meals e.g. matching suitable hosts with prospective guests. It is an initiative Dinnerparty Stilphotowhere immigrants who study Swedish are invited over for dinner to a native Swede’s house, or vice versa. It is about eating, speaking and meeting. And, hopefully, getting a new perspective. The Department of Invitations is a phenomenon. It is a non-governmental, non-profit movement without any religious or political affiliations. Jubilación

In her TED-Talk Isabel Allende talks about age and aging passionately. A very interesting fact she mentions, is that in spanish “retirement” is called “jubilación“, which means celebration and jubilation. What a difference!
