It sounds almost romantic: an estate agent wants to write a history book about Chicago and acquires a box full of “street photography” negatives. What he did not know then was, that he had just bought the whole work of Vivian Maier (1929 – 2009), a nanny who took pictures for her own pleasure from the 1950s – 1990s.
Many pictures were taken in the streets of Chicago and New York. Vivian’s pictures are incredibly beautiful and touching. In Europe there’s an exhibition of her pictures in Hamburg at the moment. For seeing more of her pictures now, click here.
Now is there also an official homepage.
And here I just discovered even more photographs.
